The Vitrobot is an automated cryo-plunge system for the preparation of vitrified aqueous samples for cryo electron microscopy. Due to the controlled environmental chamber the preparation conditions prior to the plunging process can be adjusted. Furthermore, the automated blotting with two filter papers provides reproducible results, once the exact preparation conditions for the specific sample have been determined.
