PD Dr. Florian Menzel investigates the layer of cuticular hydrocarbons on ants, which helps them communicate and protects them from moisture. We are very happy to collaborate in this project! By measuring the melting ranges of the CHCs, we could find out that the CHC layers always consist of solid-liquid mixtures at ambient temperatures - similar to icecubes in a glass of water. more

Dr. Svenja Morsbach was selected as one of the "Polymer Chemistry Emerging Investigators 2020", featuring her research in the corresponding special issue published in january. Congratulations! more

Dr. Svenja Morsbach visited the University of Hasselt for giving a lecture at the Nanotechnology Crossing Borders symposium on September 26th, 2019 about the "Characterization of Nanocarriers in Biological Media". It was a great event - many thanks for the invitation! more

Successful PhD Defense

Dr. Domenik Prozeller defended his thesis about "The immune system dependency of the protein corona" on September 24th, 2019. Congrats and all the best!

We are very proud we could host the 1st annual review meeting of our EU project VES4US at our institute here in Mainz! With our partners from all over europe, we had a very productive and enjoyable time from July 22-24, 2019. Thanks for coming! more

Group trip to ZDF!

Our group visited the TV broadcasting station of ZDF (second german television) in Mainz Lerchenberg. It was a great day meeting the "Mainzelmännchen", learning what all the buttons do in the studios/directing rooms and having fun with the greenscreen!

Congratulations to the PhD defense!

We congratulate Dr. Claudia Weber to her successful PhD defense on December 19th. She submitted her thesis about the "Flow-based techniques for the analysis of nanocarriers in biological environments".

In the project Ves4Us that runs for a total of three years, scientists from Italy, Ireland, Switzerland and Slovenia are now working together with the Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research (MPI-P) in Mainz. The focus is put on extracellular vesicles from a natural source for tailor-made nanomaterials, where the team at MPI-P works mainly on the surface modification of the carriers. more

In the project "Loss of neurotrophic factors in neurodegenerative dementias: Back to the crossroads of proteins" (LODE) researchers are focusing on understanding more about the disease developments and -especially at MPIP - developing nanocarrier devices for the transport of drugs into brain cells. Funding is provided via the EU joint programme - Neurodegenerative Disease Research for three years. more

Together with a team of three other young researchers, Claudia Weber and Solveig Bartelt from the MPIP won the prize for the best group presentation regarding current research challenges. The Leibniz Young Polymer Scientist Forum was held on June 28-29, 2018 at the DWI - Leibniz Institute for Interactive Materials in Aachen. more

PhD defense successful!

We congratulate Dr. Johanna Simon to her successful PhD defense on June 19th. She submitted her thesis about the "Proteomic characterization of the biomolecular corona and its impact on cellular uptake".

Domenik Prozeller gave a talk at the XX ISBC Conference on biocalorimetry in Cracow, Poland. The conference was held from 13-15 June 2018.

Claudia Weber gave a talk at the FFF 2018 (19th International Symposium on Field- and Flow-Based Separations) in Columbia, SC, USA. The conference was held from 14-17 May 2018.

Successful PhD defense!

We congratulate Dr. Julius Müller to his successful PhD defense on April 27th. He submitted his thesis about "Achieving a stealth effect of nanocarriers through controlled protein adsorption".

Group outing!

The polymer analysis group went to try out a new indoor activity: Black light minigolf! After a lot of fun in the dark, the evening was spent with some delicious dinner. We are already looking forward to the next event!

Riccardo Wehr successfully finished his master thesis with the title „Korrelation der Primärstruktur von Xanthanen mit deren Verhalten in Lösung” which was conducted in cooperation with Jungbunzlauer Ladenburg.

At the Gordon Research Seminar, Julius Müller gave a presentation with the title "Coating Nanoparticles with Tunable Surfactants Enables Control Over Protein Adsorption". The seminar and the associated conference were held in Mount Snow, VT, USA from June 17 - 23, 2017.
