Esca is a fungal infection that causes many grapevines worldwide to die. A method has been developed to inject a suspension directly into the grapevine trunk to target the disease. The wood component lignin is used to form capsules containing the fungicide.
The BMWI-funded project ultimately led to the founding of LigniLabs GmbH (www.lignilabs.de), which is currently working on the approval of the product “ESCApe. – The vine rescuer“.
The film presents the research project. This was shown as part of the 75th anniversary celebrations of Rheinland-Pfalz in 2022.
